Critical Thought against the Destructive Capitalocene: Disruption and Creativity
In Memoriam, Enrique Dussel (1934–2023)
Guest Editors: Luis Fernando Restrepo (Univ. of Arkansas) and René Carrasco (California Polytechnic State Univ.)
We invite submissions for a special issue engaging critically with the destructive logics of the “capitalocene” and exploring the possibilities of critical thought as both disruption and creative force. Building on Enrique Dussel’s concept of the “ethos suicida del capitalismo” (Capitalism’s suicide ethos) and his call for an ethos of life-affirmation, this dossier seeks contributions that reflect on the role of critical thought in imagining alternative ways of organizing life on Earth.
We welcome essays that engage with the work of Dussel, the Latin American critical tradition, decolonial studies, and epistemologies of the Global South. Submissions may address, but are not limited to, the following themes:
- Transmodernity and the Critique of Modernity
- Decolonial Epistemologies
- Ethics of Life Affirmation
- Ecological Thought beyond the Anthropocene
- Aesthetics and Ethical-Political Imagination
Articles (up to 8,000 words, including citations and bibliography) may be submitted in Spanish, English, or Portuguese. Submissions must be uploaded via the journal’s OJS platform and sent simultaneously to the guest editors.
Submission deadline: 15 February 2026
Submission portal: https://investigaciones.uniatlantico.edu.co/revistas/index.php/cuadernos_literatura/about/submissions
Submissions must include a brief biobibliographic note (100–200 words) with institutional affiliation and research interests.
