Columbia University’s Middle East Institute

Columbia University’s Middle East Institute offers fifteen grants of up to $1,000 each for teachers to travel on Global Exploration for Educators Organization (GEEO) programs to a number of predominantly Muslim countries. New York area (NY, NJ, CT, PA) educators who apply before 9 March will be given special consideration, but grants will be awarded on a rolling basis based on the quality of the applications, with preference given to educators from districts with limited resources.

More information about these programs can be found at https://geeo.org.

Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to sharing their travel experiences in the classroom the following academic year. Grant recipients will be required to create a lesson plan by the end of the fall 2023 semester and must also participate in an online predeparture orientation.

Applicants who are offered a grant will have five days to accept the grant by completing a booking form for their program and paying a $350 deposit on GEEO’s website. The grant will cover up to $1,000 of the remainder of the program fee. Any grant funds that are not spent on the GEEO program fee and other services available through GEEO will be forfeited. All other program costs, including international airfare, are the responsibility of the grant recipient.
