INSTITUTE FOR RESEARCH IN THE HUMANITIES OF THE UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN, MADISON: Offers four to five external, academic-year Solmsen Fellowships to scholars outside the University of Wisconsin, Madison, who are working in the humanities on European history and culture in the classical, medieval, and early modern periods before 1700. Also offers one to two external, academic-year Kingdon Fellowships to scholars outside the University of Wisconsin, Madison, who are engaged in historical, literary, and philosophical studies of Judeo-Christian religious traditions and their role in society from antiquity to the present, broadly understood. Fellows must be in residence at the Institute for Research in the Humanities at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, throughout the academic year (except for short research trips, lectures, conferences, etc.) and may extend their residency through the following summer on a nonstipendary basis. Fellows are expected to present their work at an institute seminar and participate in the weekly seminars. Applicants must be in possession of the doctorate at the time of application. The award provides a stipend of $60,000, office space, support services, and access to all university facilities. The application deadline is 26 October.
