Sharon Ritenour Stevens Prize

Due Date: 11-15-2021

The Association for Documentary Editing (ADE) invites applications for its annual prize for documentary editors, scholars, and students at midpoint of a project heavily dependent on documentary editing and document sources. Preference is given to projects on women in uniformed military service, in military support services, or on the home front during wartime. Advanced students, scholars (including independent scholars), and editors may apply.

The prize seeks to facilitate the use of documentary sources for a project or dissertation at its research stage. It includes $1,000 toward travel to collections, reproduction of sources, or other costs to utilize documents in research, plus $500 to support the prizewinner’s participation in the ADE annual meeting. Given pandemic restraints on travel, recipients may use the prize for alternative research methods. The prize includes a year’s ADE membership.

Please submit the following as Word documents by 15 November 2021:

  • One-page application letter describing project’s significance, applicant’s status (e.g., student, independent scholar, contingent or contract faculty member, retired), and summary of the planned use of documents
  • Two-page statement about research and documents under consideration
  • Three-page (maximum) curriculum vitae
  • Recommendation letter from primary doctoral adviser or other person involved in project oversight or publication

All documents should be double-spaced, except the letter, which may be single-spaced. Queries may be sent to For more information, visit
