The Films of Faith Akin

Original articles are sought for a volume of essays on the films of Fatih Akin. Suggested topics include:

  • Film genre in Akin’s films (e.g., road movie, gangster film, western, documentary)
  • Visual syntax of his films
  • Role of music and the soundtrack
  • Role of language and multilingualism in his films
  • Influence of cinematic role models (Turkish, German, Hollywood, and others)
  • Reception (in Germany, Turkey, and elsewhere) and intended audience
  • Transnationalism, hybridity, and multiculturalism in his films
  • Gender, gender roles, representation of gender
  • Film aesthetics
  • Role within international (and German and Turkish) cinema
  • Character analysis, role of identification
  • The Fatih Akin “crew” (how his frequent collaborators have influenced his films)
  • Fatih Akin’s public persona
  • The place of his films within Turkish German cinema

Articles should not have been published, though reworked conference papers are encouraged.
