How Stress Impacts Cancer Patients: An Edited Collection
Due Date: 07-31-2020
Submissions are invited for an edited collection of essays discussing the impact of stress on cancer patients.
We welcome personal narratives, creative work, and scholarly articles (or combinations thereof) about cancer by students currently or previously enrolled in an honors college or honors program. Authors might choose to focus their submission on their own cancer diagnosis or the diagnosis of cancer for others. The goal of publishing this edited scholarly collection shall be to honor loved ones who are suffering or deceased because of cancer, to disseminate knowledge on the impact of stress on individuals diagnosed with cancer, and to advocate for an emphasis on emotional support and stress relief equal to the provision of medical or pharmaceutical interventions in the treatment of cancer.
Possible topics and questions:
- In what ways do diagnoses of cancer cause stress, for the individual diagnosed as well as others?
- To what extent does stress or anxiety accelerate the rate of cancer’s growth or severity in individuals diagnosed with it?
- How can individuals diagnosed with cancer better cope with stressors?
- How can family and friends better support individuals diagnosed with cancer?
- How can healthcare providers and healthcare systems better support individuals diagnosed with cancer?
