VIRGINIA FOUNDATION FOR THE HUMANITIES: Fellowships for research and writing in the humanities. Priority to subjects that apply the humanities to issues of broad public interest: humanities and science, violence and culture, and cross-cultural issues. Issues of religious and intellectual freedom and expression, the environment, and literary and historical research on Virginia and the South Atlantic. Proposals on other topics are accepted and reviewed. Stipends are up to $15,000 a semester. The foundation encourages applications from affiliated and independent scholars. The deadline is 1 December.
