HKU Social Sciences Global South Fellowship Scheme: Connecting Minds, Transforming Futures!
Launched in 2025 by the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Hong Kong (HKU), the HKU Social Sciences Global South Fellowship Scheme aims to foster vibrant knowledge exchange and collaboration among scholars and researchers from the Global South, enhancing the Faculty’s global academic impact. Fellows will have the opportunity to visit HKU’s Faculty of Social Sciences and engage in knowledge-sharing activities, promoting cross-cultural learning and partnerships.
Applications open: Apply now for visits during the upcoming fall semester (September 2025 to January 2026).
Eligibility: Open to professoriate-level scholars affiliated with universities or comparable institutions in the Global South region.
Duration and timing: Fellowships last one to three months, during either the fall semester (September to January) or the spring semester (February to June).
Remuneration: Each fellow will receive
1. Economy class return air tickets (up to HK$10,000); and
2. A daily allowance of HK$1,500 (inclusive of accommodation) for the entire fellowship period in Hong Kong.

Since its establishment in 1967, the HKU Faculty of Social Sciences has undergone rapid expansion and significant transformation. The Faculty comprises the Departments of Geography, Politics and Public Administration, Psychology, Social Work and Social Administration, Sociology, and Journalism and Media Studies. It also houses eleven multi-disciplinary research centers and hubs, providing platforms for inter- and intra-faculty collaboration to pursue excellence in research and teaching.
