Journal of Literary Multilingualism

The Journal of Literary Multilingualism (JLM) explores texts written in nonnative languages, in a mix of languages and alternating languages. It examines a wide range of literary practices from around the globe broadly defined by multilingual and multicultural situations. The phenomenon of literary multilingualism is as old as literature itself but has received more scholarly attention as migration and globalization have increased in recent years. As the first international journal devoted entirely to this emerging interdisciplinary field, it offers a forum for cutting-edge research across the humanities and social sciences. We welcome contributions that examine multilingual authors, texts, readers, and contexts, as well as cultural phenomena (e.g., translation and reception) and societal issues (e.g., migration and language politics), as they relate to literary texts and multilingual processes in all historical periods. In addition to scholarly articles, the journal publishes creative work by multilingual writers.

The first issue is scheduled to come out in December 2022 / January 2023For all relevant information about the journal, visit www.brill.com/JLM.

JLM is a peer-reviewed, online, open-access journal, published (in English) twice a year.

Besides full-length traditional scholarly articles (6,000 to 10,000 words), JLM is open to innovative forms of inquiry. We invite:

  • critical and review essays
  • book reviews
  • interviews with translingual writers, artists, and scholars
  • annotated bibliographies
  • creative pieces written by translingual writers (essays, short fiction, poems)

Online submission: Articles for publication can soon be submitted online through Editorial Manager. Please follow Author Instructions on the journal website.

If you have any questions, please e-mail the editor in chief, Natasha Lvovich, at literarymultilingualism@gmail.com.
